The Edmonton Oilers and Glenn Anderson
On January 18th, 2009 the No.9 jersey of Hall of Fame Member Glenn Anderson was raised to the rafters at Rexall Place in Edmonton. For this event Glenn requested that I paint “The Magnificient Seven” – Glenn Anderson, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, Paul Coffey, Kevin Lowe and Wayne Gretzky, the worldwide most successful ice hockey team of the 80ies, who had won 4 Stanley Cups, the highest ice hockey trophy, in a row. During the three days of the jersey retirement celebration hosted by the Edmonton Oilers,
the seven paintings were auctioned with proceeds going to the Prostate Cancer Research of the Alberta Cancer Foundation.
Working on this project was a truly great experience and great fun.
Thanks to Glenn Anderson and Ken Barry and Marion Robinson for their support! …and of course the Edmonton Oilers.
